  • Do you use Windows or Linux servers?
    Both. We use high-performance Windows and Linux servers, with RAID disk redundancy, regular backups and strong password policy to ensure reliability and availability.

  • Do you guarantee 99% uptime?
    Our uptime record is better than 99%. It's very difficult to guarantee that you will not be affected by some form of outage at some point, but we believe the real test is how quickly and efficiently a company acts to resolve these issues, should they occur, and we pride ourselves on being among the very best in the business.

  • My website is not responding – what should I do?
    In the unlikely event that your website becomes unavailable for any reason, you should call us on 01892 704 150 and we will work quickly to get you back up and running.

  • How do I request desktop support or networking help from Delivered Systems?

  • How can I find out my IP address?
    When you are connected to the internet, you are allocated an ‘Internet Protocol’ (IP) address by your ISP. This is in order to identify your connection to sites you visit on the internet. Delivered Systems offers ipchecker.net to tell you what your IP address is.

  • I have a wireless network and am not sure if it is ‘secure’, does it matter?
    Anyone within range of your wireless network can potentially ‘piggy–back’ onto your internet connection, opening yourself up for excessive bandwidth usage, spam being sent via your connection, or even the illegal downloading of software, music or adult material putting yourself at risk.

    There are probably hundreds of definitions for the term, ‘blog’, short for ‘weblog’, but a quick definition would include the following characteristics:

    • An easy to update content management system (CMS) – simply fill out a form, hit Submit and posts are published
    • Newest items first – you could have different designs, but most blogs list newest posts first
    • A conversational tone – a blog is a collection of insights and musings, written as though you are talking to your readers
    • Posts ranging from quick paragraphs or links to longer essays – blogs offer a way to compile thoughts concisely or more detailed
    • RSS feed – an XML feed listing recent posts, allowing readers to subscribe who are notified whenever something new is posted
    • Comments – making it easy to communicate with your readers

    • Make it interesting – they are choosing to read your email, so make it worth their time
    • Give them control – give readers the choice of what topics they want to read about and how frequently they receive updates

    The bounce rate is the percentage of visits that come to the site and only view one page.

  • browser

    Computer program to view and interact with Internet Web pages

  • CAN–SPAM

    The US law that regulates commercial e-mail. It stands for “Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing”

  • cascading style sheets (CSS)

    A language for the Web to define the look and feel of a Web page. CSS can define: fonts, colors, layouts, and more

  • CMS (Content Management System)

    A tool for managing content, usually on a Web site, that separates the design, interactivity, and content from one another to make it easier for content authors to provide content

  • DNS (Domain Name Service)

    DNS is the TCP/IP stack that converts IP addresses into domain names

    A domain is the name by which a computer is identified on the Internet, associated to a number called an IP address.

  • XML (eXtensible Markup Language)

    A markup language for writing other markup languages. XML is sometimes called a "meta" language because it describes how to write new languages. It allows for the creation of applications that are streamlined for the use of the owner

  • extranet

    An intranet that is accessible to computers that are not physically part of a company's or organisation's own private network, but that is not accessible to the general public, for example to allow suppliers and business partners to access a company web site or database

  • favicon

    A small graphic that is associated with a page or Web site, designed as a small rendition of a logo or other branding mechanism

  • HTML (Hypertext Markup Language)

    A language used to write Web pages, based on SGML and recently rewritten to follow XML guidelines

  • HTTP(S)

    The set of rules used to exchange information on the Web (over SSL, a TCP/IP protocol used by Web servers to transfer and display encrypted Web content securely)

  • hyperlink

    An image or portion of text that is highlighted in some way (usually underlined on the Web) and connects the current document to another

  • internet

    The global collection of inter-connected networks connected using the TCP/IP protocols that evolved from the ARPANET developed in the late 1960s

  • intranet

    Any private network within a company or organisation, which uses the same protocols as the Internet but is intended solely for the use of that organisation

  • IP (Internet Protocol)

    A packet-based protocol for delivering data across networks, specifically the Internet

  • keywords

    The keywords or keyword phrase is the phrase that the author is trying to target for search engines

  • meta data

    Data about data, ie. information about the Web page that it is currently on, more useful to programs and scripts than to the customers reading the page

  • natural search

    A search that generates results that were not paid advertisements, a more accurate reflection of what they might want when searching for a specific phrase, because they are generated by popularity and common usage

  • script

    A script font is one that looks similar to cursive writing or handwriting, best used for decoration

  • SEO

    An abbreviation that stands for “search engine optimisation”, a technique used to make your Web pages more useful for your customers while making them more transparent and understandable to search engines

  • URL

    Standing for Uniform Resource Locator, it is the address of a document or other resource on the Internet

  • W3C

    An acronym standing for the World Wide Web Consortium, the group that determines the standards for the technology behind the Web
