Dedicated or Virtual Website Hosting?

This question has been seen to be widely debated in website hosting forums all over the internet. People are asking what's the difference between the two? What is the advantage of using one over the other? Which option will be best for my business?

Dedicated Website Hosting Servers

When we say dedicated servers, we mean an entire server reserved for one website. This means that the hardware is used by only one company, allowing them complete administrative access to root files. The administrators of the dedicated website hosting server can select their operating system for their server, install applications for web development, create users and grant permissions.

Virtual Private Website Hosting Servers

Alternatively, VPS or virtual private servers are one physical server, partitioned into multiple hosting servers and these different areas are sold to different companies. Just like a dedicated server, it allows clients to have root access and enables them to change settings and grant permissions for different users.

However, the main difference between a dedicated server and a VPS is the hardware. Unlike the dedicated website hosting server, a VPS can have several websites but each of these sites does not have any access to the other. Because of this server sharing setup, VPS requires less investment compared to dedicated servers.

Which Website Hosting Server Should I Choose?

In order to determine which of these servers you should use for your site, you need to know what the website hosting servers are for. Dedicated servers are intended for businesses that have large websites and receive a huge amount of traffic. This kind of hosting server is preferable because of its high bandwidth performance. Also, providers that offer dedicated servers are usually more established and larger compared to others.

Virtual private servers work the same way as dedicated servers and even if you share the same website hosting server with other clients, you will still have your own private partition, which is inaccessible to others. The site’s performance is also unaffected by the others. This type of hosting is usually intended for smaller companies. However, some larger companies are already considering this type of server as a way of cutting costs.
